An ‘acute’ prescription is the term for a medication that you are not regularly prescribed and is not on your ‘repeat’ medication list.  Examples might include painkillers or medicines you only need very occasionally.  They may also include a new medication issued for a trial period prior to being added onto your repeat prescription list.
